New Caligari [Nov. 24th, 2006|09:49 pm]

Has anyone seen the new sound re-make of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari? I just heard about it recently and thought it looked sort of ridiculous since all they did was take the original film, edit out the original actors, replace them with new actors, and add sound. I really think classics like that should be left alone, and I don't see the point of re-making it if the only difference is the actors and the fact that it has sound. But, I would like to know how other people feel about it. The film's website is here: http://www.caligarimovie.com/

Prague and Waxworks [Sep. 27th, 2006|08:54 pm]

I recently purchased "The Student of Prague" and "Waxworks" from eBay. They were both good films, but I really liked Connie in "Waxworks". He's so good at playing crazy, and that film really shows it.

I was wondering, does anyone know why Connie and Werner Krauss worked together in so many films? Three of the four Conrad Veidt films that I own have Krauss in them.

Has anyone seen this? Does anyone know what's going on? My French is pretty rusty, so the only part I understand is "Conrad Veidt dances." That's enough to sell me.

I'm a very new Conrad Veidt fan. I've been waiting for months to finally get my hands on The Man Who Laughs. Eventually i stumbled across a super cool video rental store with a huge supply of silent films and found it!
The movie blew me away. I am already a huge fan of Olga Baclanova, she was of course amazing in that role. But It was Conrad's portrayal of Gwynplaine that was just haunting. His ability to evoke powerful emotions using only the upper half of his face was amazing. Plus, if i may say so, he was incredibly good looking. I know nothing about the man, nor have i seen any other films by him. But i am very eager to change all of that.

Anyways, just a hello and small intro from a fellow fan :)

oh yes, and any suggestions for other films of his to see would be greatly appreciated!

I've just purchased "The Student of Prague" and "Waxworks" from an online store, and they'll be arriving in the mail within the next week. Has anyone here seen either of these films? And if so, what did you think?

Hello all, my name is Caroline. I'm very happy this community exists, as I'm going through a bit of a Connie obsession right now.

I guess the first film I ever saw Conrad Veidt in was 1928's The Man Who Laughs. Fell in love immediately, both with the film & virtually everyone in it, especially Connie. Since then I've seen about seven of his films altogether. My favorite role of his is either Gwynplaine in The Man Who Laughs or Paul Körner in Anders als die Andern (Different from the Others) (or what's left of it). He was not only a talented actor, but an amazing person as well.

I just did this art project of him in my dorm. Read more...Collapse )

Anyway, enough about me. Glad to make your acquaintance!

It seems pretty quiet on this community, but I'm a really big Conrad Veidt fan and I thought I'd post and introduce myself.

My name is Emma and I first saw Conrad Veidt in The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari, which is also my favourite of his films (in fact one of my favourite films ever). I also really love The Thief of Baghdad which I saw recently and Casablanca is also a classic.
